The PAUSE Programme
French Hosting programme for Scientists and Artists in exile (PAUSE)
What if Einstein, Curie, Arendt, or Brecht – and all those who, like them, fled war and repression – had never found refuge? What a loss for science, culture, and our shared humanity. To this day, researchers and artists remain at risk—driven from their homes, silenced, and deprived of the ability to create and share their work. Since 2017, PAUSE, led by the Collège de France, has provided them with a safe environment in which to rebuild their lives and resume their work in France. More than 720 laureates, along with their families, have been welcomed in over 140 partner institutions. But with the rise in crises, conflicts, and authoritarian regimes, the need continues to grow.
To keep supporting them, we need your help.
